Waarschuwing hitte: extra alertheid gevraagd
Adviezen voor studenten en medewerkers (English below)

Het KNMI heeft code oranje afgegeven voor extreme hitte, die ingaat woensdag vanaf 12.00 uur. Tegelijk heeft Rijkswaterstaat het hitteprotocol ingesteld in Limburg en Noord-Brabant.
Wat betekent dit voor Fontys?
Locaties en opleidingen maken zelf de afweging of aanpassingen nodig zijn, bijvoorbeeld in roosters of activiteiten. We vragen alle studenten en medewerkers om extra alert te zijn op de gevolgen van hitte.
Door de aanhoudende warmte lopen de temperaturen in gebouwen geleidelijk op. Houd er rekening mee dat dit effect in de loop van de week merkbaarder kan worden. Locaties en opleidingen bepalen zelf – en communiceren dit ook actief – of aanpassingen nodig zijn in lesroosters en activiteiten. Dit geldt voor de gehele week.
Daarnaast geldt een dringend advies om buitenactiviteiten of evenementen in te korten, aan te passen of te verplaatsen.
Mocht het door de hitte toch lastig zijn om normaal te functioneren, dan adviseren we studenten en medewerkers om contact op te nemen met hun leidinggevende of studentcoach om samen naar een passende oplossing te kijken.
De facility managers geven aan dat de situatie in de Fontys-gebouwen nu nog goed beheersbaar is. Er worden weinig klachten ontvangen. Om het binnenklimaat zo comfortabel mogelijk te houden, draaien de koelinstallaties deze dagen langer dan gebruikelijk, ook gedurende de nacht. Er wordt alles aan gedaan om de omstandigheden zo aangenaam mogelijk te maken.
Een belangrijke aanvulling is dat we iedereen willen vragen de ramen gesloten te houden. Wanneer ramen openstaan, kunnen de klimaatinstallaties hun werk namelijk niet goed uitvoeren. We zien dat er ’s ochtends vaak ramen worden opengezet omdat het buiten dan iets koeler is dan binnen. Dit is begrijpelijk, maar hierdoor raken de sensoren van het klimaatsysteem ontregeld, waardoor de regeling minder effectief wordt.
Adviezen
- Ga goed voorbereid op reis, neem voldoende water mee, ook onderweg naar en van Fontys;
- Bescherm jezelf tegen de zon (bijvoorbeeld met pet, zonnebrand of paraplu);
- Let extra op kwetsbare groepen, zoals studenten en medewerkers met gezondheidsklachten;
- Houd berichten van je opleiding/locatie in de gaten voor eventuele aanpassingen.

Advice for students and staff
Heat Warning: increased vigilance required
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued an Orange Weather Warning for extreme heat, effective from 12:00 noon on Wednesday. At the same time, Rijkswaterstaat has activated its Heat Protocol in the provinces of Limburg and North Brabant.
What does this mean for Fontys?
Individual campuses and programmes will assess whether any adjustments are required, for example to timetables or activities. We ask all students and staff to remain particularly alert to the effects of the heat.
Due to the prolonged warm weather, temperatures inside buildings are gradually increasing. Please be aware that this effect may become more noticeable as the week progresses. Campuses and programmes will determine whether adjustments to teaching schedules and activities are necessary and will communicate any changes proactively. This applies throughout the week.
In addition, there is a strong recommendation to shorten, adapt or reschedule outdoor activities and events.
If the heat makes it difficult to function as normal, students and staff are advised to contact their line manager or student counsellor so that an appropriate solution can be explored together.
Facility managers report that the situation within Fontys buildings remains manageable at present, and only a limited number of complaints have been received. To maintain the most comfortable indoor climate possible, cooling systems are operating for longer periods than usual, including overnight. Every effort is being made to ensure conditions remain as pleasant as possible.
An important additional point is that we would like to ask everyone to keep the windows closed. When windows are open, the climate control systems cannot function properly. We often see that windows are opened in the morning because it is slightly cooler outside than indoors at that time. This is understandable; however, it disrupts the sensors of the climate system, making its regulation less effective.
Recommendations
- Travel well prepared and bring sufficient drinking water, including for journeys to and from Fontys.
- Protect yourself from the sun (for example by wearing a cap, using sunscreen or carrying an umbrella).
- Pay particular attention to vulnerable groups, including students and staff with existing health conditions.
- Keep an eye on communications from your programme or campus regarding any adjustments.
