Update 20 januari 10:00
Het Fontys netwerk is stabiel. SURF meldt dat er geen ongewoon verkeer is richting het SURF-netwerk en dat de genomen maatregelen van kracht blijven. Fontys en SURF blijven het netwerk nauwlettend monitoren. Ook afgelopen weekend zijn er geen problemen geweest. Gezien de huidige situatie is er geen volgende update gepland. Als de situatie verandert, starten we de communicatie weer op, en vullen we de berichtgeving weer aan. Voor de bereikbaarheid van Fontys betekent dit dat alles weer zoals gebruikelijk hervat is.

De laatste update van Surf is dat de DDoS-aanval weer is gestopt. Het lijkt erop dat de genomen maatregelen een positief effect hebben. Voor nu betekent dit dat het netwerk weer lijkt te stabiliseren. Uiteraard blijven zowel Surf als Fontys alert. 

Update 17 januari, 09.40 uur
Volgens de laatste update van Surf is er helaas weer sprake van een DDoS-aanval. Dit kan zorgen netwerkstoringen bij Fontys en verminderde bereikbaarheid. Fontys en Surf doen er alles aan om de problemen zo snel mogelijk op te lossen.

Update 16 januari, 17.30 uur
Het netwerk lijkt voor nu weer stabiel en beschikbaar. We verwachten dat de combinatie van getroffen maatregelen die SURF samen met netwerkpartners heeft genomen, de impact van een volgende aanval zal beperken. Als er onverhoopt morgen toch weer een storing wordt geconstateerd, zullen we dat hier tijdig melden.

Update 16 januari, 11.00 uur
Het netwerk van Fontys is helaas weer instabiel. Daardoor is Fontys minder goed bereikbaar. Dit wordt nog steeds veroorzaakt door de DDos-aanval op het SURF-netwerk, de ict-coöperatie voor onderwijs en onderzoek in Nederland.

Update 15 januari 16:00, netwerk weer stabiel
Het netwerk van Fontys is weer stabiel, waardoor alle werkzaamheden kunnen worden hervat. Door de netwerkstoring was Fontys tijdelijk minder goed bereikbaar. We begrijpen dat dit voor hinder heeft gezorgd, maar inmiddels is contact met Fontys weer mogelijk zoals gebruikelijk, zowel telefonisch als online. De DDoS-aanval op het landelijke, externe SURF-netwerk, die de storing veroorzaakte, heeft geen verband met de recente cyberaanval bij de TU/e en was niet gericht op de systemen van Fontys. Bedankt voor ieders geduld en begrip!

Achtergrond
Fontys kampte sinds dinsdagmiddag 14 januari met netwerkproblemen. Dit werd veroorzaakt door een DDoS-aanval op het netwerk van SURF, de ICT-coöperatie voor onderwijs- en onderzoeksinstellingen in Nederland. De aanval was niet specifiek gericht op Fontys, maar trof meerdere instellingen in (het zuiden van) Nederland.

Network issues at Fontys due to regional outage

Update January 20, 10:00 AM
The Fontys network is stable. SURF reports that no unusual traffic has been detected towards the SURF network and that the implemented measures remain in effect. Fontys and SURF continue to closely monitor the network. There were no issues over the past weekend either. Given the current situation, no further updates are planned. Should the situation change, we will resume communication and provide additional updates. For contact with Fontys, this means that everything has returned to normal.

The situation remains unchanged compared to the previous update. 

Update January 17, 12:30 PM
The latest update from Surf is that the DDoS attack has stopped. It appears that the measures taken have had a positive effect. For now, this means the network seems to be stabilising again. Of course, both Surf and Fontys will remain vigilant.

Update January 17, 11:00 AM 
According to the latest update from Surf, there is unfortunately another DDoS attack. This may cause network failures at Fontys and reduced accessibility. Fontys and Surf are doing all they can to solve the problems as soon as possible.

Update January 16, 17.30 PM
The network appears to be stable and available again for now. We expect that the combination of measures taken by SURF together with network partners will reduce the impact of any future attacks. If a disruption is detected tomorrow, we will report it here promptly.

Update January 16, 11:00 AM
Unfortunately, the Fontys network is unstable again, making Fontys less accessible. This is still being caused by the DDoS attack on the SURF network, the IT cooperative for education and research in the Netherlands.

Update January 15 16:00, network stable again
The Fontys network is stable again, allowing all operations to resume. Due to the network outage, Fontys was temporarily less accessible. We understand this may have caused some inconvenience, but contact with Fontys is now fully restored, both by phone and online. The DDoS attack on the national, external SURF network, which caused the outage, is unrelated to the recent cyberattack at TU/e and was not aimed at Fontys systems. Background
Since the afternoon of Tuesday, January 14, Fontys experienced network issues. These were caused by a DDoS attack on the network of SURF, the ICT cooperative for educational and research institutions in the Netherlands. The attack did not specifically target Fontys but affected multiple institutions in (the southern) Netherlands.
