Fontys ontvangt subsidie voor versterking sociale veiligheid

(English below) Fontys heeft een subsidie van 446.220 euro toegekend gekregen vanuit de Regeling Sociale Veiligheid in het Hoger Onderwijs en de Wetenschap. Met het project Samen Cultuur Versterken investeert Fontys de komende jaren samen met studenten, medewerkers en studieverenigingen in het verder versterken van sociale veiligheid binnen de onderwijs- en werkomgeving.

Sociale veiligheid is een belangrijke randvoorwaarde voor leren, werken en samenwerken. Binnen Fontys wordt hier al langere tijd aan gewerkt via initiatieven zoals de expertisegroep IDEAS, trainingen voor medewerkers en leidinggevenden, gedragscodes voor studieverenigingen en het jaarplan Sociale Veiligheid van Fontys HR & Organisatie. Met deze subsidie kan Fontys deze inspanningen verder versterken en versnellen, met als doel een cultuur waarin sociale veiligheid dagelijks zichtbaar, bespreekbaar en vanzelfsprekend is.

Samenwerking binnen en buiten Fontys
De subsidieaanvraag is ingediend door Fontys Hogeschool in samenwerking met de Federation of Purple Study Associations (FPSA), de koepelorganisatie van Fontys-studieverenigingen. Binnen het project werken verschillende onderdelen van de organisatie samen, waaronder Fontys Studentenvoorzieningen, het IDEAS Office, het Centrum voor Medezeggenschap (CvM), studieverenigingen en Fontys Academy of the Arts (FAA).

Het project bestaat uit vijf samenhangende activiteiten die bijdragen aan bewustwording, handelingsbekwaamheid en kennisdeling rondom sociale veiligheid. De opbrengsten worden gedeeld binnen de gehele Fontys-gemeenschap en waar mogelijk ook met andere onderwijsinstellingen.

Versterken van een lerende cultuur
Een belangrijke rol binnen het project is weggelegd voor de expertisegroep IDEAS, die zich binnen Fontys richt op thema’s als inclusie, diversiteit en sociale veiligheid en de verschillende activiteiten en betrokkenen met elkaar verbindt. Zo kunnen successen en goede voorbeelden organisatiebreed worden gedeeld, toegepast en verder ontwikkeld.

Succesvolle onderwijsmodule Fontys Academy of the Arts
Een van die goede voorbeelden is de onderwijsmodule Critical Citizenship van de opleiding Dance Arts in Context van Fontys Academy of the Arts (FAA). De module helpt studenten kritisch te reflecteren op intermenselijke relaties, macht, inclusie en verantwoordelijkheid. Met behulp van de subsidie wordt deze aanpak verder ontwikkeld en breder beschikbaar gemaakt binnen Fontys, onder meer via een toolkit en inspiratieworkshops voor andere opleidingen.

Train-de-trainer voor studieverenigingen
Een van de activiteiten richt zich specifiek op studieverenigingen. Samen met FPSA wordt een train-de-trainerprogramma ontwikkeld rondom sociale veiligheid en ‘active bystander’-vaardigheden. Bestuurders, vertrouwenscontactpersonen en actieve leden van studieverenigingen leren hoe zij situaties van sociaal onveilig gedrag herkennen en bespreekbaar maken. Zo wordt sociale veiligheid niet alleen een onderwerp van beleid, maar ook iets dat leeft binnen de studentengemeenschap.

Het delen van ervaringsverhalen
Een andere activiteit richt zich op het verzamelen van ervaringen van studenten en medewerkers rond sociale veiligheid. Deze praktijkverhalen vormen de basis voor de ontwikkeling van concrete hulpmiddelen, zoals handelingsscripts, aanspreekkaarten en communicatiematerialen die bijdragen aan een veilige en inclusieve onderwijsomgeving.

Het project besteedt daarbij expliciet aandacht aan de ervaringen en positie van groepen die vaker te maken krijgen met uitsluiting of onveiligheid, waaronder LHBTIQ+-personen, mensen met een migratieachtergrond en mensen met een beperking.

Een belangrijke impuls
Met Samen Cultuur Versterken werkt Fontys samen met studenten, medewerkers en partners aan een omgeving waarin iedereen zich welkom, veilig en serieus genomen voelt. De subsidie geeft daarmee een belangrijke impuls aan de verdere ontwikkeling van sociale veiligheid binnen Fontys én het hoger onderwijs.

Fontys receives funding to strengthen social safety

Fontys has been awarded a grant of €446,220 through the Social Safety in Higher Education and Science Scheme (in Dutch Regeling Sociale Veiligheid in het Hoger Onderwijs en de Wetenschap). Through the project Strengthening Culture Together, Fontys will work with students, staff and student associations over the coming years to further improve social safety across its learning and working environment.

Social safety is an important condition for learning, working, and collaborating. Fontys has already been investing in this area through initiatives such as the IDEAS expertise group, training programmes for staff and managers, codes of conduct for student associations, and the Social Safety annual plan developed by Fontys HR & Organisation. This grant allows Fontys to build on and accelerate these efforts, with the aim of creating a culture where social safety is visible, openly discussed and taken for granted in everyday practice.

Working together within and beyond Fontys
The funding application was submitted by Fontys University of Applied Sciences in partnership with the Federation of Purple Study Associations (FPSA), the umbrella organisation for Fontys student associations. Several parts of the organisation will work together on the project, including Fontys Student Facilities, the IDEAS Office, the Centre for Participation (CvM), student associations and Fontys Academy of the Arts (FAA).

The project includes five connected activities that promote awareness, practical skills and knowledge sharing in relation to social safety. The results will be shared across the entire Fontys community and, where possible, with other educational institutions.

Strengthening a learning culture
The IDEAS expertise group plays an important role in the project. Within Fontys, the group focuses on topics such as inclusion, diversity and social safety, and helps connect the different activities and stakeholders involved. This makes it easier to share successful approaches and good practice across the organisation, helping them to be adopted and developed further.

Successful learning module at Fontys Academy of the Arts
One example of good practice is the Critical Citizenship module offered within the Dance Arts in Context programme at Fontys Academy of the Arts (FAA). The module encourages students to think critically about human relationships, power, inclusion and responsibility.

With support from the grant, this approach will be further developed and made more widely available across Fontys, including through a toolkit and inspiration workshops for other degree programmes.

Train-the-trainer programme for student associations
One of the project activities focuses specifically on student associations. Together with FPSA, Fontys will develop a train-the-trainer programme on social safety and active bystander skills. Board members, confidential contacts and active members of student associations will learn how to recognise and address situations involving socially unsafe behaviour.

This will help ensure that social safety is not only a policy topic, but also something that is actively discussed and supported within the student community.

Sharing personal experiences
Another activity focuses on collecting the experiences of students and staff relating to social safety. These real-life stories will form the basis for practical tools such as response guides, conversation cards and communication materials that support a safe and inclusive learning environment.

The project will also give specific attention to the experiences and position of groups that are more likely to face exclusion or unsafe situations, including LGBTQI+ people, people with a migrant background and people with disabilities.

An important boost
Through Strengthening Culture Together, Fontys is working with students, staff and partners to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe and respected. The grant provides an important boost to the continued development of social safety at Fontys and within higher education more broadly.
