Topic: Networks in the Dutch-German Border Region

Location: Venlo

Context:
Cross-border networks can play a large role, particularly in relation to their role in facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange across national boundaries. In various studies, including those focusing on learning networks, such networks are widely recognised as powerful tools to foster cooperation between organisations. Depending on the format, structure, and setup of the network, they can be a key instrument in promoting (eu)regional integration.

The presence of the border can still exert significant influence on the formation, functioning, and durability of such networks. Borders, and elements that come with it, may act as both barriers and catalysts. This raises relevant questions about how borders shape cross-border networks and what strategies can be employed to strengthen their resilience and effectiveness. We aim to better understand these dynamics.

Student Profile:

  • Knowledge of either Dutch or German (preferably both)
  • Interest in exploratory research
  • Proactive

Potential directions for RQs:

  • How do organizations engage in networking within the context of the Dutch-German border region?
  • In what ways are networking practices influenced or shaped by the presence of the Dutch-German border?
