Facilities and learning environment
At Fontys Technology, you learn and work in an environment where technology is at the heart of everything. Students and researchers use teaching labs, workshops and test facilities where theory and practice come together. This is where things are designed, built, tested and improved.
But there is more than the technical spaces. Through student associations, student teams and extra programmes for talent development, you work alongside fellow students who are just as driven as you are. And if you need support, Student+ and other initiatives are there to make sure you can follow your studies in a way that works for you.

Technical labs
The different labs at Nexus
At Fontys Technology, technical labs and facilities form the core of our education and research. Students and researchers work with professional equipment to design, build, test and improve technology. The labs are closely connected to current applications from the professional field and are used for education, projects and practice-oriented research.
In this environment, students learn to work with technology as it is used in professional practice. Companies also make use of these facilities for collaboration, experimentation and innovation.
Curious about the labs in the Nexus building? Below you will find a selection of our technical labs. In the videos, students show how they work and learn in these facilities.

Women in Technology
Women in Technology connects female students, role models and businesses to build an inclusive technical community in the Brainport region.
To Women in Technology -
Women in Technology
Building an inclusive future in technology together
Technology is the future. And that future belongs to everyone. Yet too few women choose a technical degree, while the Brainport region needs more technical talent than ever. Diverse teams are demonstrably more innovative and successful. That's where the strength lies.
At Fontys Technology, we believe students thrive in an environment where everyone feels seen and supported. That's why we are actively building an inclusive technical community. For and with female students, girls in secondary education, alumni, professionals and everyone who cares about this. In doing so, we contribute to the growing demand from the region, industry and the semiconductor sector for diverse and broad technical talent.
What we want to achieve
Our goal is clear: by 2030, 30% of students starting a technical programme will be women. But it goes further than that. We are working towards:
- an inclusive learning environment where everyone — women, men, non-binary — feels at home
- a strong network: students, alumni, lecturers, businesses and the region strengthening each other
- more female enrolment through visible role models and inspiring projects
- less drop-out in the first year, through connection and support at the right moment
What students say
A survey among female students showed that concerns about the study environment are real and widely shared. Anonymous responses:
"Worried to be the only woman."
"How do I fit into a male world?"
"Being underestimated."
This honesty makes clear why Women in Technology exists. And why it matters.
Who is it for?
Women in Technology is open to everyone who wants to contribute to a more inclusive technical world:
- female students in all technical programmes at Fontys Technology
- girls in secondary education who want to discover technology
- female alumni and professionals who want to be a mentor or role model
- all students and staff who care about this — because everyone counts
What do we do?
We combine accessible, low-threshold meet-ups with structural programmes and regional collaboration. All contributing to connection, visibility and academic success.
Monthly networking drinks
Once a month on a Thursday, you are welcome at the Nexus restaurant (Lokaal 040) from 4.30 pm. Just drop in, no registration needed. Events are announced on the monitors and in the agenda on the portal. Meet other female students, share experiences and build your network.
Mentorship programme
Female alumni are paired with students for informal conversations about their studies, career and personal development. We started this academic year and are building the programme step by step. Want to become a mentor? Get in touch.

Driven by a committed steering group
Women in Technology is not a one-off initiative. A dedicated steering group of Fontys staff meets monthly to develop and strengthen the programme:
- Annelies Moors — project lead Women in Technology
- Anne van Hoof — team leader Mechatronics
- Muriël van Alphen — education manager Fontys Technology
- Yvonne Geerts — lecturer Automotive/Mechanical Engineering
- Jenny Kroon — lecturer Mechanical Engineering
- Nienke van Otterloo — programme manager Junior Academy
- Ester Rieter — education manager Fontys Technology
Several other colleagues are also involved in specific projects, including Hester Verduin (lecturer Mechatronics) and Alison van Loenen (lecturer minor Be Creative/Electrical Engineering).
Working with partners
We collaborate with organisations that want to strengthen diversity in technology.
Businesses
Together with regional businesses, we make the programme tangible. They provide mentors, give guest talks, open their doors for excursions and actively work on diversity awareness within their organisations.
Fe+male Tech Heroes
We are a proud partner of Fe+male Tech Heroes in Eindhoven. Their mission: promoting gender equality and diversity in tech by making role models visible, organising events and inspiring businesses.
VHTO
VHTO is a national organisation working to increase the participation of girls and women in technology and IT. Their starting point: fix the system, not the girls.
Regional partners
We work with TU/e (Women in Science), Summa, ROC ter Aa and Brainport Development (Beethoven-project) on a continuous learning pathway and regional connection.
Internal networks
Within Fontys Technology, we are building a strong women's network that connects students and staff. Because an inclusive culture starts from within.
Get involved and make a difference
Want to contribute to more diversity in technology? Or are you looking for a place where you, as a woman in technology, can be yourself? You are welcome, as a student, secondary school pupil, alumna, professional or committed colleague.
