Application and enrolment

Have you found your programme and want to apply? We look forward to welcoming you. Applying is easy; we will explain what you need to do step by step. See you at Fontys!

For each programme at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, specific admission requirements and application steps may apply. Please check the page of the programme you want to study for the exact requirements.

Please note: The information below applies to regular bachelor's and master's programmes. Are you an exchange student? Please go to How to apply as an exchange student.

Step 1: Apply through Studielink

Once you have found the right programme and checked the admission requirements, you can apply through Studielink. The application deadlines depend on your background, your chosen programme, and your start date (September or February).

Go to application deadlines

Important: Some programmes have different deadlines, such as:

  • Fontys Academy of the Arts
  • Dutch-taught programmes: Sport en Bewegen and Management in de Zorg

Always check the programme page for the exact deadline.

While applying, Studielink will ask for information about your identity and previous education. Please have your passport, diploma and transcript of records ready.

Studielink will send all messages to the email address you used for your application. You will also receive access to a Fontys email account.

Missed the deadline?

You might still be able to apply. See the complete overview of options.

Step 2: Hand in documents

After you submit your application through Studielink, Fontys will send you an email. In this email, we ask you to upload additional information and documents. These documents are needed to check whether you meet the admission requirements for your chosen programme.

Please make sure you read the email carefully and upload all the requested documents as soon as possible. This helps us process your application faster.

Required documents

  • A copy of a valid passport or ID card (only if your identity could not be fully verified via Studielink)
  • Your final diploma in the original language plus a certified translation of your diploma in English, Dutch or German
  • Your final transcript of records in the original language, plus a certified translation of your transcript in English, Dutch or German.
  • If you have not received your final diploma yet, you may submit your preliminary grades. We will review them and decide whether we can already offer you a conditional admission.
  • A recognised English language certificate (for English-taught programmes, unless you are exempt based on your previous education).

The diploma validation process may take up to three weeks. You will receive the outcome as soon as possible.

Visa and residence permit (non-EEA students)

Are you from outside the EEA? Then you will need a visa and/or residence permit to study in the Netherlands. If this applies to you, Fontys will apply for these documents on your behalf after we have confirmed that you are eligible for admission and motivated to study at our university. After you submit your application, we will contact you with more information about the procedure.

    Additional information

Do you want to start a study programme at Fontys, but you do not have the required diploma or subjects? In some cases, you may still be able to apply. Fontys offers admission tests for specific situations. Below you can find the options, based on your age and previous education.

    • Do you have a HAVO or VWO diploma, but are you missing one or more required subjects? In that case, you may still be eligible by taking a Fontys admission test (in Dutch).
    • Do you have a non-Dutch diploma, but are you missing required exam subjects? Unfortunately, the options to make up for missing mandatory subjects are limited. Fontys does accept some external certificates, such as Boswell or CCVX. However, most of these certificates can only be obtained by taking exams in the Netherlands.

Step 3: Arrange payment of your tuition fees

After you provide your documents and information in step 2, Fontys will check whether you are eligible for admission. To complete your enrolment, you must arrange your tuition fees. The process depends on your nationality.

    Dutch or EEA students

You will receive a message with instructions on how to authorise your tuition fee payment in Studielink. Payment authorisations are usually available from 30 April. Make sure to complete the authorisation before your programme starts!

This authorisation allows Fontys to automatically collect the tuition fee from your account.

    Non-EEA students

If you are a non-EEA student, there are extra steps to complete your enrolment:

    • You will receive a payment letter for tuition fees and visa costs.
    • The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) requires proof that you have sufficient financial means for living expenses while studying in the Netherlands.

It is important to take care of these requirements early, so your visa and residence permit can be arranged on time.

    Step 4: Arrange practical matters

Once your admission is confirmed and your payment is completed, you can be sure that you are ready to start your studies at Fontys!

Before your programme begins, there are some practical matters you may need to arrange. Which topics apply depends on your personal situation.

If you previously sent a temporary grade list, please make sure to send your final diploma and transcript before 31 August. Your enrolment will only be completed after we have checked your hard copy diploma.
