A robot that sorts parcels, a drone that flies on its own, a factory that runs itself. Everywhere, someone is needed who understands how the entire system works. That could be you.
After your Mechatronics degree, you can work at companies such as ASML, Philips, Canon, Medtronic, Siemens Healthineers, DAF and VDL. But you also find mechatronics in healthcare, the food industry and logistics: wherever machines move, measure and are controlled automatically. The Eindhoven and Venlo regions both offer plenty of opportunities at large and smaller high-tech companies.
After graduation you can start your career as a:
A milking robot on a farm, a robotic lawnmower in the garden: you design machines that do their work independently. You decide how they move, what they detect with their sensors and how the software controls them.
A factory that produces, sorts and packs on its own: that’s what you design. You program the robots and the control systems, make sure machines connect to each other and make production faster and safer. In the Adaptive Automation Systems specialisation, you learn exactly this.
Would you like to help develop high-tech equipment for operating theatres? You make sure mechanics, electronics and software come together in one reliable device.
When a machine stops, the whole production line stops with it. You find the cause and fix it. You install, maintain and improve machines in which mechanics, electronics and software come together.
With a few years of experience, you can grow into a system architect. You then decide how a technical system is built: which parts are needed, how they work together and what happens when one part changes.
After completing the Bachelor’s programme in Mechatronics, you can continue with a master’s programme at higher professional (hbo) or university (wo) level. A wo master’s programme is equivalent to an hbo master’s programme. The difference is not the level, but the approach.
An hbo master’s programme is practice-oriented. You work on complex real-world challenges and apply your knowledge directly. At Fontys, you can for example continue with the hbo master’s programme Digital Technology Engineering or System Design.
A wo master’s programme is more theoretical and focuses on scientific research. Continuing your studies at a technical university is possible, but the transition may require additional entry requirements or preparation. For this route, agreements have been made with TU/e within an hbo top programme.
Which master’s programme suits you best depends on your learning style, interests and future plans.

Please note! If you wish to apply for housing through Fontys, the application deadline is June 15 (start September) or December 8 (start February).
