You can be admitted to this Master's programme if you have a Bachelor's degree in academic or higher professional education.
You have to work a minimum of 20 hours a week in a relevant practice (Architect’s firm or related). The academy offers alternative practice studios for students who are temporarily unable to find a regular job. In these alternative practice studio’s students will work on assignments by real stakeholders and will be supervised by practitioners. There is usually no remuneration for participating students.
For all programmes conducted in English Fontys Academy of the Arts has set minimum language requirements.To prove that you meet these requirements you will be asked to send one of the English language certificates.
As a non-EU/EEA student, the Netherlands will require an Entry Visa* (MVV) and a Residence Permit. Fontys will apply on behalf of its students for these documents. We recommend you start the process early, i.e. approximately three months before you plan to enter the Netherlands.
*except nationals from Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, South Korea, the USA and Vatican City State.
If you want to be considered for the NL Scholarship, you will be asked to motivate (+/- 500 words) how you plan to use this scholarship for the master Urbansim.
The application deadline for the NL Scholarship is May 1.

There is a selection process for this programme. The application deadline for the 2026-2027 academic year is April 1st, 2026 for non-EU students and July 1st, 2026, for EU students. You need to hand-in a portfolio, motivation letter and have an interview. Based on this, it will be determined whether you will be admitted.
Register via Studielink. You can do this from 1 October onwards. From 1 November onwards, you will receive an email within two working days with a link to your personal admission page (check your spam folder too!). Requirements differ for EU and Non-EU students.
For the preselection, we ask you to upload a portfolio, motivation letter and other required documents.
The preselection for Non_EU candidates will take place between March 1st and May 1st. The interview takes place on Monday, Tuesday or Friday, you will receive an online invitation by e-mail at least 2 weeks before the interview takes place.
If you pass the preselection, you will receive an invitation for an online interview.
During this interview, we want to get to know you better and hear more about your motivation. The interview will last 20 minutes.
