Your study programme

Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.

What will you learn?

This practical study programme teaches you how to handle finances in a company. You will learn everything about bookkeeping, budgeting, creating and analysing financial reports. You will also develop skills to help with decisions about money, such as investments and cost control.

International Finance & Control students
  • Practice is essential, but attending classes is the foundation.

  • You will work with subjects such as business administration, process management and data analysis.

  • You will gain experience in research, communication, advice and presentation.

Structure for the next four years

From the start, theory and practice go hand in hand. In the first year, you gain broad knowledge across finance, business, logistics, and marketing. After the first year, you'll select a financial perspective to specialise in, from planning and control to data-driven decision-making. Develop practical skills in analysis, reporting, and project management throughout the Bachelor’s programme.

Student experiences

At International Finance & Control we get to collaborate with companies straight on from year one. This really built my confidence and made me more adequate in profiling myself in a proper manner.

Carly

Student

My name is Carly Janssen, and I am a Dutch sixth-semester Finance & Control student at the Fontys Venlo University of Applied Sciences. Looking back at the past years I can truly say that I’ve found myself to be at home at the campus.

I really appreciate the hands-on mentally and strong focus on practical learning combined with theorical work. Semesters are divided into blocks which offer projects and multiple subjects ranging from accounting to taxes but also topics such as statistics. The fact that we got to collaborate with companies straight on from year one really build my confidence and made me more adequate in profiling myself in a proper manner.

Being guided through projects by people who’ve worked in the field has made me feel secure in the quality of what I’m being taught. All of this makes me feel well rounded which is something I was looking for since I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to study besides it having to do with economics back when I applied in 2022. As of now I’m having a great time at my internship where I feel like I can apply my knowledge in a way that can truly benefit the company, even if it’s on a small scale.

Besides the academic part I’ve had the chance to connect with people from all over the world from day one which, to say the least, is something I hadn’t expected. I favour the international environment not just because it has helped me develop my personal and professional skills but because I really cherish all the things I’ve learned from interacting with different cultures. The friendships I’ve made are ones that I will cherish for life.

Becoming a financial controller takes determination and a proactive attitude with a given of lifetime learning. But I can say with confidence that I’ve made the correct decision for myself by choosing to get a degree in this line of work. The industry is ever changing but I feel sure that I’ll be able to keep up with it because of what I’ve learned during my bachelors.
