The Dutch applied sciences approach is highly interactive, practical and student centred. Instead of relying on long lectures or memorising theory, you work on real world ICT projects, collaborate closely with peers and receive personalised guidance from your study coach. You are encouraged to be proactive, ask questions and take responsibility for your learning. Many international students find it more informal, flexible and hands on than education systems in their home countries.
Yes, you will need a reliable laptop capable of running development tools and programming environments. Exact specifications are flexible, but a modern processor, sufficient RAM and good battery life are recommended. Many tools used during the programme are available to students free of charge through educational licences, and campus computer labs are available whenever you need them.
You will study in a diverse, multicultural environment. Classes often include students from Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, together with Dutch students who choose the English taught stream. This diversity creates a dynamic learning atmosphere and offers valuable experience in collaborating with people from different cultural and educational backgrounds.
Fontys offers strong support to help you settle in smoothly. You will have a personal study coach who guides you through academic expectations and project based learning. Our International Student Services team can assist with housing, documents and wellbeing. Peer networks and student communities also help you adjust to Dutch study culture, daily life and new routines.
