Applied Science — Chemistry & Chemical Engineering brings together biology, chemistry and technology. Not as separate subjects, but as a toolkit. You decide how you use it. Whether you work on new medicines, sustainable materials, clean water or medical diagnostics.Prefer to follow this programme in Dutch? See Applied Science (Dutch). If you follow the Dutch programme, you can also choose to take one or more modules in English.

This is a small-scale programme. You know your lecturers, and they know you. You study on the TU/e campus in the heart of Brainport Eindhoven.
You start broad, discover where your passion lies, and build your own profile step by step.
Applied Science is a degree for students who want to explore and keep surprising themselves. You start with a broad foundation in biology, chemistry and technology. Then you choose three theme modules that suit you, from developing tomorrow's medicines to solving water challenges or creating new materials. Step by step, you build a profile that is truly your own.
That combination makes you versatile. You spot connections others miss.
This allows you to move more easily between different fields and sectors. From chemical technology and diagnostics to life sciences.
And specialise step by step in the direction that suits you. Want to focus on biomedical applications? From the end of your first year, you can choose the specialisation Biomedical Engineering.
You start with a broad foundation in biology, chemistry and technology. In years 1 and 2, you choose three theme modules that suit you. In year 3, you use your elective space: you follow a minor, do an internship or start a pre-master's. You also conduct in-depth research through an expert module. You finish with a 10-month final-year project.
With a degree in Applied Science, you are well positioned in the job market. Companies such as Philips Healthcare, MSD, BASF and Rockwool, as well as hospitals like the Catharina Hospital and the Princess Máxima Centre, are looking for professionals who can bridge multiple fields. That's you. You can also continue to a master's degree after completing your bachelor's.

Did you complete a pre-university programme (equivalent to vwo)? Then you have two advantages. You can start not only in September but also in February, thanks to the modular structure of the programme. You may also be able to complete the programme in 3.5 years instead of four. Your options are wide open. Think of laboratory research at Philips Healthcare or MSD, product development at BASF or Rockwool, or working in diagnostics at a hospital. Applied Science combines elements of chemical technology, biology and life sciences in one broad degree — you don't have to choose before you start. Continuing to a master's is also an option, at a university of applied sciences or a research university such as TU/e.
Yes. From the end of your first year, you can choose the specialisation Biomedical Engineering. You deepen your knowledge by following the theme module From DNA to Bioproduct, choosing the minor Applied Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, and completing your final project within the world of biomedical engineering.
A lot. Alongside theory, you work in the lab every week using professional research equipment. You complete your studies with a final-year project of ten months.
Excellent. There is strong demand for professionals who can bridge biology, chemistry and technology. The Brainport Eindhoven region (home to companies such as Philips Healthcare, Signify, DAF, and Eurofins) offers many nearby opportunities. Pivot Park in Oss, the pharmaceutical hotspot of the Netherlands, is also a well-known destination for our graduates.
