Start your career

You can work anywhere, in the Netherlands or abroad. Design new apps, develop smart applications, create multimedia communications or help a company with their digital security. What will you do?

What kind of work can you do?

After graduation you can start your career as a:

We hear more and more about data leaks and hacks. As hackers become increasingly sophisticated, it is important that companies keep an eye on these developments. As a cyber security specialist, you keep hackers at bay, trace suspicious situations and prevent problems.

Do you have a passion for designing and developing games? Use your creative talent to give gamers an exciting and interactive gaming experience. As a game designer, you work on the concept, the code, the graphics and the game mechanics.

As a software developer, you create the architecture and structure of software applications and software systems. You analyse, design technical specifications and plan the functional aspects. You then implement these designs, test them and optimise their performance.

As a front-end designer, you convert a web design into a functioning whole in the browser. You use HTML, CSS and Javascript to design and programme the interface. You make sure that websites are intuitive and appealing to end users.

As a data engineer, you are responsible for organising and accessing data. You use artificial intelligence to process and analyse data, so that valuable information is produced that your organisation can use effectively.

Student experiences

Michael

Graduate Bachelor ICT

"I joined Fontys as an international student with a clear goal: to specialise in Artificial Intelligence and build technology that genuinely helps people.

What stood out immediately was the strong focus on practical application combined with innovation.

During my studies, I learned how to work independently, develop personal projects and approach complex problems in a structured way.

One lesson from a lecturer has stayed with me: "Always aim for the simplest effective solution". I still apply this mindset in my daily work.

After graduating, I started my career in the data field and now work as a Data Engineer at ABN AMRO. My role goes beyond writing code. It involves analysing systems, solving complex challenges and contributing to solutions with real impact.

Looking back, Fontys prepared me not only technically, but also professionally. It helped me become adaptable, confident and ready for an international career in data and AI".

Anjela

Graduate Bachelor ICT

"What defined my time at Fontys was the opportunity to step into leadership roles long before graduation.

After a lecturer recommended me to a software company, I found myself managing real client projects while still a student.

Beyond coursework, I became involved in student associations, organised events and represented Fontys at education fairs. These roles helped me develop organisational skills, public speaking experience and the confidence to take initiative.

Fontys encourages you not just to learn ICT, but to grow into a professional who can lead and make an impact".

Martin & Simeon

Graduates Bachelor ICT and co-owners of Synthgen

Studying ICT at Fontys gave us the freedom to experiment, fail fast and build meaningful products. We were encouraged to think like engineers and founders, not just students.

Inspired by Eindhoven’s vibrant startup ecosystem and supported by SPARC Innovation, we started Synthgen as a student project. It quickly grew into a real business with users and partners.

Fontys provided both the technical foundation and the entrepreneurial mindset that helped us turn an idea into a company.

Edita

Graduate Bachelor ICT

"I started my ICT journey with no programming experience, but I knew I could learn as I went, and the field offered endless possibilities.

What made Fontys feel right for me was the opportunity to explore different ICT disciplines. I have tried several specialisations - from Software to Mobile Development - but gradually discovered I enjoy the User Interaction part the most.

Having the freedom to switch helped me understand not only what I am good at, but also what I enjoy contributing to in the digital world".

Samuil

Graduate Bachelor ICT

"During my studies, I had the opportunity to intern at ASML as a Virtual Infrastructure Architect Intern. This was a role that challenged both my networking expertise and problem-solving skills on a daily basis. Working in such a high-tech environment showed me what cyber security excellence truly looks like in practice.

From the start, I was driven by the ambition to work in organisations where security is mission critical, such as international banks or government institutions. The ICT programme at Fontys gave me a strong technical foundation, but more importantly, it taught me how to apply that knowledge in real-world scenarios.

That combination of academic depth and hands-on experience helped me secure my current role as a DevSecOps Engineer at Adfinis (a Swiss company). Here, I work with open-source technologies and GitOps practices to deliver secure, high-availability solutions for clients including banks and public sector organisations.

Every project continues to sharpen my expertise. It also reinforces that I am on the right path towards a career at the forefront of cyber security".

Livia

Graduate Bachelor ICT

"Hard work always pays off!

I am extremely happy to have done both my internship and graduation assignments in collaboration with Koninklijke Philips N.V. and multiple hospitals around the Netherlands. I specialised in Applied Data Science because data is all around us. This allowed me to apply machine learning techniques on my projects and assignments.

I learned a lot at Fontys and I feel privileged for all the opportunities!"

Martin

Graduate Bachelor ICT

During my third year at Fontys, I joined IT Lab, an innovation hub where students develop virtual and augmented reality solutions to improve learning. It was the perfect place to explore emerging technologies in a hands on way.

What I appreciated most was the freedom to experiment, fail, try again and see real progress. Lecturers treated us like professionals and encouraged us to take ownership of our ideas.

My time at Fontys helped me discover not only new technologies, but also my own potential to innovate.

Graduate Associate degree ICT & Bachelor ICT

"From my very first weeks in the Associate Degree in ICT, I knew this programme suited me.

What appealed to me most was the strong focus on real world practice. Instead of working through theory alone, we collaborate with actual companies and solve ICT challenges that mirror professional reality.

A typical week combines technical classes with group projects, so you immediately apply what you learn. The atmosphere is open and supportive, with approachable lecturers and motivated classmates. You are trusted with responsibility early on, which helped me grow in both confidence and professionalism.

This programme is an excellent choice if you enjoy learning by doing and want to gain practical experience alongside your studies".

Gásten

Graduate Bachelor ICT

“One of the highlights of my Bachelor in ICT was winning the ICTalent Awards twice in one day. Having my work recognised by industry professionals and being offered an internship immediately afterwards was an unforgettable experience.

What makes Fontys stand out is the strong connection between education and industry. Students work on real-life projects that truly matter to companies, which helped me build technical expertise, creativity and confidence while opening doors to international career opportunities before graduating.

Today, I work in Amsterdam as an Engineering Team Lead at Vandebron. Looking back, Fontys not only prepared me for the job market, but also helped me build a valuable professional network. The mentor who offered me my first internship after the ICTalent Awards is still someone I turn to for career advice today.

My advice to students: embrace AI, but also invest in understanding the technologies behind it and in developing strong communication skills. Those skills will help you stand out throughout your career".
