What will you learn?

The Fontys Master Architecture features project-based learning, combining studio projects with theoretical courses. The 40-week programme includes practical experience in an architect's firm, studio work, and self-study. You'll develop essential skills for professional growth.

Programme structure of the next four years

Each study year is carried out in a 40-week intensive programme. You will work in the Design Studio at Fontys on Fridays and have online theory classes on Tuesday evenings. Alongside this, self-study comprises 10 hours a week, and working at a relevant architectural firm, 20 hours a week.

First year

First year

The first year is all about developing a designer's mindset towards the world around us. The core studio programme includes skill-based training, like negotiation, architectural virtual design, and model making. In addition, you will receive theoretical courses in architecture, urban design, economy, sustainable design, and art history. Your progress will be assessed through a comprehensive portfolio.

Second and third year

Second and third year

In year two and three, you'll dive into studio projects, workshops, and advanced skill-based training. You also undertake research and have in-depth theory courses.Studio assessments feature diverse assignments, methodologies, and complexities across different scales. (1:1 to 1:10.000). Every second semester, you can go on an international study trip to explore projects abroad, enhancing your global perspective.

Fourth year

Fourth year

In your final year you tackle a year-long graduation project, individually or in teams, with guidance from personal and external tutors. Follow a structured process, attend inspiring lectures, and present projects for review. Spend 3 months on research and analysis, addressing self-defined issues. All work aims to tackle societal challenges, preparing you to make a meaningful impact on society.Get inspired by these graduation projects of our alumni.
