Step 2: Hand in documents
Step 2: Hand in documents
After you submit your application through Studielink, Fontys will send you an email. In this email, we ask you to upload additional information and documents. These documents are needed to check whether you meet the admission requirements for your chosen programme.
Please make sure you read the email carefully and upload all the requested documents as soon as possible. This helps us process your application faster.
Required documents
- A copy of a valid passport or ID card (only if your identity could not be fully verified via Studielink)
- Your final diploma in the original language plus a certified translation of your diploma in English, Dutch or German
- Your final transcript of records in the original language, plus a certified translation of your transcript in English, Dutch or German.
- If you have not received your final diploma yet, you may submit your preliminary grades. We will review them and decide whether we can already offer you a conditional admission.
- A recognised English language certificate (for English-taught programmes, unless you are exempt based on your previous education).
The diploma validation process may take up to three weeks. You will receive the outcome as soon as possible.
Visa and residence permit (non-EEA students)
Are you from outside the EEA? Then you will need a visa and/or residence permit to study in the Netherlands. If this applies to you, Fontys will apply for these documents on your behalf after we have confirmed that you are eligible for admission and motivated to study at our university. After you submit your application, we will contact you with more information about the procedure.

Do you want to start a study programme at Fontys, but you do not have the required diploma or subjects? In some cases, you may still be able to apply. Fontys offers admission tests for specific situations. Below you can find the options, based on your age and previous education.
- Are you 21 years or older and do not have the right diploma? You may be eligible to take the Fontys 21+ admission test (colloquium doctum)
- Do you have a HAVO or VWO diploma, but are you missing one or more required subjects? In that case, you may still be eligible by taking a Fontys admission test (in Dutch).
- Do you have a non-Dutch diploma, but are you missing required exam subjects? Unfortunately, the options to make up for missing mandatory subjects are limited. Fontys does accept some external certificates, such as Boswell or CCVX. However, most of these certificates can only be obtained by taking exams in the Netherlands.
