Frequently asked questions

A Master’s degree from a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) is just as valid as one from a Research University (RU). You earn the exact same qualification: a Master’s degree at level 7 EQF (European Qualifications Framework).

Every master’s programme, whether at a UAS or a RU level, includes a research component. The research at a UAS is based on a practical question. You conduct research into a real-world issue and learn skills that you can apply straight away. The research in a RU master’s programme is based on an academic question and is therefore theoretical in nature.

A Master’s programme lasts 1–2 years. The duration and specific structure of our Master’s programmes vary depending on the programme variant. You can find more information on the relevant programme page.

Across various programmes at Fontys, it is possible to study flexibly. This form of education offers you, as a professional, greater freedom to decide where, what and when you study, and therefore also influences the pace at which you complete the programme.

All part time Master programmes

With a Bachelor’s degree, you can progress to a Master’s qualification. Depending on the programme, it is offered full time and/or part time and usually takes 1–2 years to complete. As a UAS Bachelor graduate you do not need a pre Master’s programme to enrol in UAS Master’s degree; however, a pre Master’s is required if you wish to pursue a RU Master’s degree.
