Frequently asked questions

Applied science universities are more focused on practice and are strongly career-oriented. Technical universities are more theoretical with focus on research and innovation. If you prefer to learn things by doing, applied university is a way to go.

A minor is a specialisation programme you can take in year 3 or 4. You can choose to either do a specialisation minor at Fontys or spend a semester abroad at a partner university.

The HBO ICT and Information Technology programmes are similar, but there is a difference. ICT provides a broader education, while Information Technology focuses more on software engineering and the business side of computer science.

You will work with programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript en SQL. Additionally, you'll gain experience with tools like Git, Visual Studio Code, and Docker, and you will use development methods such as Agile/Scrum. With these skills you will able to build both front-end and back-end software applications.

After graduating from Information Technology you will have gained a variety of skills, making it possible to work in a variety of IT roles. You could work as a software or database developer, data scientist, AI developer or security professional. There are many possibilities now and in the future.
