Get a good impression of what your study programme will look like.
Are you curious, full of ideas, and love making cool things? Do you have a passion for design, technology, and working with others? In the BSc Industrial Design Engineering programme in the Netherlands you'll learn to develop products from concept to the completed product. You'll work on real-life projects, develop designs, test prototypes, and discover how to apply production techniques and market insights to the design process.
During your first year, your week will consist of:
- 22 contact hours (workshops, projects, drawing classes, and lectures, for example)
- 18 hours of individual study
There's no better place to study Industrial Design Engineering than Venlo. Close to the border, you'll find a variety of nationalities and a wide range of companies. This provides you with plenty of opportunities for internships and practical projects.
In the first and second year of Industrial Design Engineering, you’ll build a broad foundation of the knowledge and skills needed as a designer. You’ll follow a diverse programme of lectures, workshops, and excursions, all connected to real-world design challenges. Sustainability and social relevance play a key role: you’ll learn to design products that are not only functional and innovative but also contribute to a better future. The central design project runs throughout the programme, allowing you to develop ideas into tangible prototypes that you can test and refine.
The third year focuses on broadening your knowledge and skills, giving you the freedom to shape your own learning path.
In one semester, you’ll complete an internship at a design agency or, for example, the design department of a manufacturing company. This internship allows you to apply your design knowledge and skills in a professional environment.
In the other semester, you can choose to pursue a minor, a pre-master’s, or a second internship. For instance, you might take the Apply Sustainability minor offered by Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo, or prepare for further study through a pre-master’s programme.
You can complete both the minor and the internship in the Netherlands or choose to go abroad for an international experience.
The fourth and final year focuses on personal development and graduation. In your final semester, you’ll complete a graduation internship at a company, during which you’ll carry out an individual design project. This demonstrates that you have mastered the knowledge and skills needed to work in a professional design environment.
