Hands-On Manufacturing Green Belt

Enhance your manufacturing skills with the Hands-On Manufacturing Excellence Course (MEC), presented by ASML, DAF and Fontys. This immersive 9-day course combines theory with hands-on application in a competitive, team-based learning environment. Participants work on practical manufacturing challenges, gain insight into real-world production processes and connect with peers and industry professionals.

About this course

The Hands-On Manufacturing Excellence Course (MEC) is a practice-oriented training programme focused on developing skills in manufacturing excellence. During this 9-day course, participants work in teams within a simulated Learning Factory, where they build, analyse and optimise manufacturing lines in a collaborative and competitive setting.

In addition to the simulation-based programme, participants visit real factories, engage with industry experts and expand their professional network. The course offers a structured and experiential way to explore manufacturing improvement methods and their application in practice.

Key benefits

  • Hands-On Learning: Practical challenges and real-world simulations
  • Structured Learning Environment: Build a solid foundation in manufacturing excellence methods and teamwork.
  • Industry-Recognized Certifications: Earn an NLQF level 5 certification to strengthen your professional profile.
  • Networking Opportunities: Visit factories and connect with peers and manufacturing professionals.

“During the course, we set up several production lines, which closely mirrored real-life scenarios. The optimizations we made during the training were almost directly transferable to our actual work. While I expected some improvements using the tools, I was astonished
by how effective we became—ultimately two or three times more efficient. This truly surprised me.”

Learning Objectives

he Hands-On MEC Green Belt track builds a strong foundation in manufacturing excellence through practical application in a realistic Learning Factory environment. Participants develop essential skills to understand, apply and support process improvement initiatives in production settings.

Understanding Manufacturing Processes
Participants gain insight into how manufacturing processes are structured and learn to recognise inefficiencies, variation and bottlenecks within production lines.

Applying Improvement Tools
Core manufacturing excellence methods and tools are introduced and applied directly in hands-on simulations, enabling participants to translate theory into measurable improvements.

Data Awareness & Basic Statistical Insight
Participants learn how to interpret production data and use fundamental statistical techniques to support improvement efforts.

Structured Problem Solving
Through guided exercises and team challenges, participants practice identifying root causes and implementing practical solutions within a manufacturing context.

Effective Team Collaboration
Participants strengthen their ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, communicate findings clearly and contribute to improvement projects within their organisation.

Together, these learning objectives provide a solid NLQF level 5 foundation for professionals who want to actively contribute to manufacturing excellence initiatives.

Learning outcomes

The Hands-On Manufacturing Excellence Course offers two certification tracks: Green Belt and Black Belt. The Green Belt track is positioned at NLQF level 5 and focuses on building a solid foundation in manufacturing excellence through practical application.

Participants in the Green Belt track develop the skills needed to understand, apply and support manufacturing improvement initiatives. The emphasis lies on learning core principles, tools and methods, and applying them in a structured way within a team-based manufacturing environment.

Throughout the programme, participants gain experience in:

  • working with manufacturing excellence tools and techniques,
  • analysing and improving production processes,
  • collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary teams,
  • and translating theory into practical improvements within a simulated Learning Factory.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants receive the Microcredential Green Belt in Manufacturing (NLQF level 5).
