Appeal, objection or complaint

Do you disagree with a decision made by Fontys? Then you can lodge an appeal, objection or complaint with the Student Desk. Which procedure applies to you depends on the problem.

Examples of decisions

  • A negative study advice;
  • A decision of the Examination Board or examiners (e.g. assessment);
  • Number of credits obtained;
  • (Exemption from) admission requirements;
  • Admission to examinations.

You may submit an appeal to the Examination Appeals Board with respect to decisions made by examiners or the Examination Board. These decisions may concern, for example, decisions regarding assessments, granting (extra) resits, entry requirements, fraud/plagiarism, exemption requests, or admission to exams, etc.

If you disagree with an assessment, you can first submit a request for review to the Examination Board of your own study programme. However, it is always possible to submit an appeal directly to the Examination Appeals Board.

The notice of appeal must be submitted in writing within six calendar weeks after the date of the decision. The notice of appeal is the letter explaining why you disagree with the decision. You should also attach a copy of the decision you disagree with (the decision of the Examination Board or an assessment decision). You can find more information about the appeals procedure on the portal of the Student Desk.

Submit an appeal online
Fontys students can submit an appeal directly online via the ‘Submit notice of appeal’ button on the portal of the Student Desk. You can log in with your Fontys account.

If you are not a Fontys student, you do not have access to the Student Desk portal. In that case, you can submit your appeal via this link. To do so, you must first create an account via the ‘Register’ button.

You may submit an objection to the Executive Board against decisions made by or on behalf of the Executive Board, an institute director, the Student Support Fund Committee, or the Committee for Elite Sports and Talent Status. This may concern, for example, decisions regarding admission to a study programme, enrolment, reimbursement of tuition fees, disciplinary measures, the granting of graduation support, or the granting of Elite Sports or Talent Status.

You may submit your objection by email via: Studentenloket-beroep-bezwaar-klacht@fontys.nl

If you disagree with the actual conduct displayed by a Fontys staff member or with organisational matters at Fontys you may submit a complaint with the director of your institute.

If you are dissatisfied with how your complaint has been handled, you may submit a complaint to the Executive Board in accordance with the Fontys Complaints Procedure.

You may submit your complaint by email via: Studentenloket-beroep-bezwaar-klacht@fontys.nl
