Giftedness

Being gifted can have many advantages, like thinking fast, being creative, and having strong curiosity. But maybe you sometimes feel stuck, for example because you don’t feel challenged enough, you lose motivation, or you don’t always understand yourself well. Read what giftedness is, what problems you might face, and what you can do to deal better with these traits.

What is giftedness?

A gifted person thinks fast and smart. You are often independent, curious, and you like to learn new things. Gifted people often feel a lot and live intensely. They enjoy making or thinking of things.

Not every gifted student gets high grades easily. Maybe you recognise this. You can feel disappointed about your results or the level of your study.

What can you do?

Luckily, there is more and more information about giftedness. If you know more about it, you understand yourself better and you can deal with it better. There are books, websites, and lists with common problems that gifted students face. Look at these lists to see if you recognise yourself in the examples.

Try talking about it with your parents, as they can also give you insights on whether there are signs you might be gifted. Maybe you skipped a class in primary school.

  • It can be hard to talk about this with your student coach or teacher, but you are not alone. You can prepare by writing down your thoughts, practicing with someone you trust, or using examples that show how you feel.
