Fontys Teacher of the Year

Is your teacher the very best? Is your colleague the very best teacher? Is this teacher a good supervisor and coach? Does this teacher have passion for his profession and is the teaching of high quality? Then nominate the teacher as a candidate Teacher of the Year 2026. An excellent opportunity to put the teacher in the spotlight, to give you positive feedback and to profile the programme.

If you would like to nominate a teacher as Teacher of the Year please go to the application form below. This can be done until 12.00 noon on 13 November 2025 at the latest. Who will succeed Susanne Dirks-Trommelen, Teacher of the Year 2025?

Registration is no longer possible. The nominees will be announced in early December. The Teacher of the Year will be announced during the New Year's reception on 5 January 2026.

Note: The nominated teacher ultimately makes the choice whether or not to participate in the election.

What does the election deliver?

On 5 January 2026, the Fontys winner will be announced at the New Year's
Meeting. The winner will receive a cheque for €5,000 from the board for the
benefit of innovation in education. The winning Fontys teacher will then (if
he/she wishes) be delegated to the national election of Teacher of the Year,
organised by the Interstedelijk Studenten Overleg (ISO).

The jury

The jury consists of three members of the student faction of the Central
Participation Council, the winner DvhJ 2025 and a Communication consultant Fontys OenO.

Assessment criteria

Fontys is looking for lecturers who:

  • Have and express passion for their subject and know how to convey the social added value of the subject.
  • Being engaged and accessible, applying activating didactics, provide sufficient feedback and show interest in the student's perception of the world.
  • Continue to professionalise and develop reflective skills and deal well with student feedback.
  • Provide high-quality and innovative education and keep students engaged in their profession.
