Fontys offers prospective students a Study Choice Check to support them in their study orientation and study choice process. Participation in the Study Choice Check is not compulsory for students applying for admission on the basis of an international diploma.

The main goal of the Study Choice Check is to determine how well your study programme suits your interests. This will benefit the chances of you enjoying your study time and succeeding at Fontys and ultimately also in your career. The Study Choice Check is a final confirmation to help you to decide. This will help you feel more confident, whatever your choice may be.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact your study programme.

The course of events surrounding the Study Choice Check and the study choice advice are detailed in the Study Choice Check rules. Specific details for each study programme are included in the Teaching and Examination Regulations of the study programme concerned.

The tuition fees indicator helps you to determine the tuition rate for your situation. The information and tuition rates from this indicator are without engagement.

go to tuition fees indicator 2025-2026

Statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees

A distinction is made between statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Only if you satisfy all statutory requirements regarding your nationality and if you have not yet been awarded a degree, will you be eligible for statutory tuition fees. Via the tuition fees indicator, you can secure an indication of the type of tuition fees that will be applicable in your situation. To do so, please make use of the indicator above.

More information about tuition fees

How to pay tuition fees

Please ensure that you have arranged the payment of your Tuition Fees prior to commencing your course programme(s). If you fail to do so, your (re-) enrolment will not be finalised and you will not be permitted to follow your chosen course programme(s). Please also note that if you are not enrolled, you will not be entitled to receive any student grants and/or loans.

Digital Authorisation

You pay your tuition fees via a digital (direct debit) authorisation, either all at once or in instalments (via Fontys). You can fill in your payment details via Studielink.

  • Start September: On or around 15 May , you can fill in your payment details via Studielink.
  • Start February: You can fill in your payment details via Studielink as soon as your enrolment request is processed by Fontys.

More information about entering your payment details in Studielink can be found at info.studielink.nl/en. A lot of information can also be found in the Studielink Q&A - payment method section.

If paying in instalments

Collection will take place in a maximum of ten equal instalments on or around the 26th of the month. Depending upon the processing time required after your enrolment, the direct debit may need to be moved to the following month. If so, the amount outstanding will then be divided and added to the remaining instalments to be executed until and including the June instalment.

Please note: In relation to the paying in instalments facility, an Administration Fee per Academic Year will be payable. This fee will be debited to your account together with the first instalment payable.

If paying the full sum in a single payment

If you commence your studies on 1 September, the direct debit pertaining to your Tuition Fees will be executed on or around 25 September. If you commence your studies after 1 September, the direct debit will be executed on or around the 26th of the month in which you commence your studies.

Using the tuition fees indicator, you can determine which tuition rate applies to you. The amounts mentioned are for the entire year (12 months). If you start mid-term or in February, you will only pay for the number of months you are enrolled.

Please note:If you have submitted your ‘Request for Enrolment’ after the date upon which the last direct debit was to be executed (i.e. on or around 25 June), payment of the full sum in a single payment will be the only option possible.

In all cases (i.e. paying in instalments or in a single payment), prior to the execution of each direct debit, you will be sent a message in which you will be advised of the exact date upon which the direct debit is to be executed.

If the whole amount, or an instalment (only possible when paying via a digital authorisation), cannot be directly debited, a Payment Reminder will be sent to you.
If payment is still not made within the specified term, a payment demand will follow. If the payment demand relates to tuition fees, and payment is still not made within 14 days following the date of the payment demand, Fontys will terminate your registration by the second month following the date of the payment demand. When you receive this payment demand, your Fontys account will be blocked simultaneously. As soon as Fontys has received your payment, your account will be accessible within a few working days.

Study materials

Both on and off campus you will use your computer a lot. For some specific activities we have so-called innovationlabs: Gameslab, Securitylab, Accenturelab, Multimedia kitchen and Virtual Reality lab. You can work there with advanced, state of the art technology. Besides that, every student is obliged to have and to use their own laptop. We made sure we have:

  • A lot of power sockets to plug in your laptop
  • Most of the needed software applications, available for free through surfspot.nl (see information below)
  • Many network connections so you can use a network cable for fast internet connection
  • Wireless internet throughout the whole building

Laptop requirements

At the beginning of the course, the most recent laptop is sufficient. So if you already own a laptop, you can probably just use it. If you don't have a laptop yet, take a quick look below. However, it is possible that a heavier laptop may become necessary during the course of the programme. This depends on your chosen topics, which you will follow after semester 1. We do not recommend laptops, intended for online use, such as Chromebook or MacBook air, because they do not have enough hard disk space or cannot run the appropriate software.

Additionally, we recommend for you to buy a headphone with noise-cancelling.

Operating system

Keep in mind that Apple's new M1 processor cannot yet run all the necessary software and future support for it is still unknown. In fact, you are going to have to run a virtual machine at the beginning of your training and support for this is still limited. We recommend Windows 10 (or newer) as an operating system, which will run most of the software you will need during your training. However, you can also run Linux or Mac OS, you will probably run into some problems or virtualisation or installation of Windows may be necessary.

Below are the minimum requirements for your laptop.

Windows 10

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 / AMD Ryzen 5
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 128 GB Disk space
  • Graphics hardware: Min. 128 MB of graphics memory
  • Number of USB ports: 2
  • Display: Screen resolution of 1280 x 768
  • Display: 14 inches
  • Browser: Most recent version of Edge, Chrome or Firefox

MacOS

  • Processor: Intel processor
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Hard disk space: 128 GB disk space
  • Graphics hardware: Min. 128 MB graphics memory
  • Number of USB ports: 2
  • Display: Screen resolution of 1280 x 800
  • Display: 14 inches
  • Browser: Most recent version of Safari, Chrome or Firefox

Video card

A dedicated video card may come in handy, or even necessary, at a later stage of the programme. For the ICT & Media Design profile and the ICT & Game Design and Technology specialisation, these cards are highly recommended, as this may involve running some heavier graphics programmes such as Maya, Blender or Unity. For example, Blender recommends a video card with at least 4 GB of VRAM and 16 GB of system memory (RAM). Should you buy a laptop with only usb C connections, always buy a hub with at least 1 usb A port (preferably 4 or more) and 1 HDMI connection.

Additional costs

It is possible that you will need some small computer supplies or hardware after you started your study programme. Most of the time, this will only be a small amount of money.

Software deals for education

SURFspot is the ultimate non-profit ICT online store. SURFspot offers an educational discount on software, hardware and online educational resources.

So how does it work?
Go to SURFspot.nl and log in using your Fontys account (PCN@student.fontys.nl + password)

All Fontys students are entitled to the Office 365 package. You can use the online version. But you can also download the package on your various devices such as your laptop and smartphone.
We strongly advise you to make use of the Office 365 package. You can read exactly what to do in the manual we have posted on the Fontysportal. Use the login details you received from us immediately after your registration with Studielink to access the portal (see also: My personal login, e-mail and wifi).

Ambience photo Fontys

Why Office 365?

  • Secure storage for your Fontys study materials.
  • If you have an internet connection, you can access your stuff.
  • You can access it with any device, as long as it has a browser on board.
  • Your OneDrive is 1 TB in size, and provides synchronisation software for your private laptop or desktop.
  • Legally and freely install the latest Office version on up to 10 devices.
  • Almost every part of Office365 has a separate app, just search your mobile device's store.
  • You can use this cloud environment as long as you study here.

Because most information is available digitally, you don't need books for the first semester.

Personal support

To give you a good start at Fontys ICT, you will be in close contact with a student coach. He or she is your first point of contact for all practical and study questions, follows your achievements and gives valuable tips and advice where necessary.

We also advise you to bookmark the webpage Fontys helps. This platform offers practical information, personal support when you need extra guidance and useful links. But also interesting initiatives for you to join.

Coaching

In the first year, you will be assigned a personal semester coach. He or she will be your primary point of contact, with whom you will have regular communication. Your coach will monitor your progress, provide useful tips and advice as needed.

To ensure your successful study experience, Fontys University pays personal attention to you. You will receive guidance in your development and exploration of your talents. Of course, we are also here to assist you with any questions regarding time management, additional study support, dyslexia, and autism, among others.

Student+ is a service provided by Fontys ICT for all ICT students. We offer a wide range of trainings, workshops, and individual and group coaching programmes, for example, for students with autism, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, or exam anxiety. We also support students who struggle with study planning and organisation, physical and/or mental health issues, or students who balance their studies with elite sports or caregiving responsibilities. It is important to us that all these students have equal opportunities and receive the help they need.

For more information about Student+ and the additional study support options, visit our website Student+ Fontys ICT | Home.

If you would like to get in touch with us, please email us at studentplus@fontys.nl.

At the beginning of the startsemester, Student+ organises an information session specifically for students who expect to need extra support with their studies.

The date and time of this information session will be announced at a later date through the co-ordinator of the startsemester.
