J.J. (Jan) Dobbelsteen

In 1989 Jan Dobbelsteen graduated at the Technical University Eindhoven in the field of Electrical Engineering, researching low-frequency noise in solid state devices. The results from this research eventually led to a scientific publication in Solid State Electronics.

After his study Jan started working in embedded product development for Honeywell, Philips, Siemens, and TomTom. Initially as a software engineer, and growing steadily to become lead system architect of automotive navigation and multimedia systems. He also fulfilled the role of knowledge manager and conducted trainings. In 2012, he joined the IT institute of Fontys University of Applied Science (Fontys ICT).

Since his start in education in 2012, Jan coordinated multiple semesters and designed new semesters. He lectured and tutored in all semesters, from the start semester up to graduation. He has been involved in research, mostly in the area of embedded software and systems. Currently Jan coordinates and leads the minor Signals & Embedded Systems, working together with the research group High-Tech Embedded Software (HTES). For the research group he also started doing research. He is preparing a promotion research into the revival of analog computing, and the feasibility of its use in minimizing energy usage of complex computational applications like Machine Learning and AI.
