Inbound mobility in relation to flight ban, update 44

Update C

The Dutch cabinet has adopted a number of new travel restrictions for international travel, including a flight ban for incoming flights from the United Kingdom, Cape Verde, South Africa and countries in South America, effective from Saturday January, 23. Team Internationalisation and department SV have investigated what the consequences are for students from these countries who want to come to the Netherlands in the coming period for their study at Fontys and for Fontys students who are abroad and want to return soon.

The consequences are listed below:

1. International students with a non-EU nationality who are coming to Fontys for a bachelor or exchange programme and who are travelling to the Netherlands from outside the EU may still enter the Netherlands. They are exempt from the re-entry ban on the basis of their MVV (machtiging voorlopig verblijf) or, if they have been living in the Netherlands for a longer period of time and are returning from, for example, a family visit, their residence permit;

2. International students who are travelling (back) from the United Kingdom, South Africa, Cape Verde or South America will be faced with the flight ban (of one month for the time being), which will take effect on Saturday January, 23. Students who are not in the Netherlands before Saturday January, 23 may encounter problems entering the Netherlands and therefore not be able to come to Fontys (in time) for study activities. We advise the institutes/coordinators of Internationalisation to contact these students.

3. Students and employees who travel in from a high-risk area must, in addition to the already compulsory negative PCR test, also have a quick test done no more than 4 hours before departure. This applies to all travellers coming to the Netherlands by plane or ferry from high-risk areas.
