Your future

You know how to express your artistry. You can create, think and produce collaboratively. You know how to take ownership of your own career.

Start your career

You create, think and produce collaboratively. Our graduates are dance makers and dance leaders who have their own voice, who take ownership of their own careers, and who go on to take up meaningful positions throughout both the performing arts field and wider society.

Where do our graduates work?

After graduation you can start your career as a:

As a professional dancer you create and/or perform choreographed dance routines on stage, in movies, on television, in music videos, and more. You practice daily to improve your skills. You perform in various settings, like live in a theater with a dance company or in a concert.

A choreographer designs and directs dance routines for performances, productions, or events. You work closely with directors, producers, and performers to create dance sequences that enhance storytelling, emotional expression, and the artistic vision of a performance.

You play an important role in bringing dance productions to life. You create a concept, you collaborate with choreographers, dancers and directors to develop the artistic vision of a production. You coordinate the project, overseeing scheduling, budgeting, and logistics.

Pursue a Master's degree after your studies

We offer motivated graduates the chance to enrol in the Master of Choreography. This programme builds on the Fontys Dance Arts in Context bachelor's degree, allowing you to further professionalise with broader and deeper knowledge in your field, enhancing your career prospects and expertise.

The programme provides the space and safety to discover your own artistic core

Annemijn

Alumnus

The Choreography programme taught me to get as close as possible to my artistic core. To do so, I felt I had to unlearn many things and test many more ideas and concepts. The programme ensured that I could get new input and knowledge from different assignments and teachers. It is difficult to ‘learn’ how to become a choreographer, the study programme offers the space and safety to discover your own artistic core and in that process there is plenty of room to try, fail and try again.

Dance is my strength, my passion and my way of telling stories

Ghislaine

Alumnus

During my training, I discovered my love for dance. I was also given the space to develop my own artistic voice. The broad education gave me a strong foundation while allowing me to delve into my own fascinations. For me, that was the Martha Graham technique. Already during my studies, I travelled to New York to experience this style up close. After graduating, I decided to stay there and got the chance to dance with the Martha Graham Second Company. My dedication was rewarded with the Armgard von Bardeleben Award for Excellence in Graham Technique.I now work as a professional dancer with various companies and teach the Graham technique here in New York.

Dance is more than a profession for me, it is a way to tell stories, share emotions and constantly reinvent myself.

My journey has been non-linear, but dance remains central to my life and work

Patricia

Alumnus

I started my dance education at Fontys, specializing in Contemporary Urban. Despite graduating during the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted my plans, I shifted focus to teaching and exploring other interests. I later studied Psychology at Tilburg University and pursued a Master's in Dance Movement Therapy at Codarts Rotterdam, combining my passions for dance and psychology.

Throughout my studies, I continued teaching and joined the collective 'vloeistof' in Tilburg. I also developed a course called Stress Release via Dans, aimed at helping people connect with their bodies and release emotions through guided exercises.Additionally, I work at a creative daycare and after-school program, enjoying my time with children.

My journey has been non-linear, but dance remains central to my life and work.
