Student experiences

I want to create a more livable world for people and do both functional and beautiful architecture

Emre

Student year 1

Why did you choose to do a master? What is your goal?I wanted to do my master's degree at this school because I thought it would be a good complement to the undergraduate education I received at a technical university, with its integration with art and other departments and the importance it gives not only to the technical part of architecture but also to its aes-thetic aspect. And indeed, it did, and I am very pleased with how it is going. When I decided to do my master's degree, the only thing on my mind was to be able to create a more livable world for people, and to be able to do both functional and beautiful architecture. I think the school is progressing in line with my goals so far.

What do you think is a unique thing about the study programme?I think what makes this school most special is that it has a structure that directs me to think and ques-tion, and is far from rote learning. Our studies always require research and evaluation, and this allows me to learn both faster and more. In addition, the workshops where all the departments I learned after starting school come together and seek solutions to a common problem make this school very special. The chance to gain new perspectives by observing the thinking and behavioral methods in the solution process of departments such as music, art, and dance is incredible.

What are challenges for you during the study programme?I had already chosen this challenge thoughtfully and consciously, but continuing education along with work is quite tiring. When my professional swimming career is added to this, it becomes a very tight schedule, but this intensity is good for me. Even though it is difficult, working and producing is one of the most important needs for a person, in my opinion.

How do the teachers help you to reach your goals? When I was accepted to this school, I knew that the next step and goal would be to find a job. This pro-cess took about 6 months and was a really tiring period mentally. But we got through this process toge-ther thanks to the school team, who I can call mentors rather than teachers. Apart from their teachings in class, their guidance for real life is very valuable to me and the fact that they knew my name the first day I entered the school created a completely different bond with me. I heard this a lot from my other friends as well. I can really feel that we are more than just a school number at Fontys.

How would you describe the atmosphere at the master? There is a teaching team and classroom environment that is open to innovations, learning with technolo-gy, different methods and ideas. I can comment freely, without being judged, and this also improves me. In addition, the closeness to the architecture world outside the school, seminars and events make the atmosphere of the school even more professional and turn it into a complete preparation center for the business
