Fontys Academy of the Arts offers a free and open environment where you are encouraged to explore not only your main subject, but also disciplines beyond it. For example, composition students are required to play an instrument, while instrumentalists are encouraged to arrange or even compose music. This approach helps you develop new skills that will be valuable in your professional career.
We don’t just train skilled musicians, we nurture complete artists. You’ll collaborate with students from other art forms, which enhances your creativity and expressive abilities. Every student gets a study coach. This coach is not one of your main subject teachers. That means they can help you in a different way and give you new ideas when you have problems.
You can also contact Fontys Helps. This is a service where you can make free appointments with career coaches or psychologists. You can talk with them about personal or difficult topics.
Yes. There are, for example, competitions and projects. They allow the winners to perform in places like the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven or Paradox in Tilburg.
That is an unique part of the programme at Fontys. From the third year, every student gets a budget. You can use this budget to learn more about something you are interested in. For example, if you play the flute but want to take piccolo lessons, you can. If you play classical saxophone but want to try jazz saxophone, that is also possible. You can choose anything you like, even lessons with teachers from outside Fontys. You discuss your plan with the team Free Choice before you start.
