About this main subject

Studying trumpet at the AMPA is a challenge with many possibilities. Working on a career as a soloist, teacher, orchestral musician or a chamber music player is possible at your own discretion. It is also possible to choose specifically for cornet or flügelhorn as main instrument. These typical instruments are in danger of extinction so definitely worth studying!

You will be trained to become a professional on your instrument with the highest possible musical and technical capabilities. The repertoire is very extensive and versatile thanks to the knowledge of the main subject teacher. His methodical knowledge is immense because of his years of work with all ages.

Playing together with other musicians is an integral part of your studies. You will be part of the brass department, but we would also challenge you to think outside the box. Which surprising ensemble combinations can you think of? Perhaps a combination with woodwinds? Percussion? String players? Or would you like to perform alongside other artistic mediums like dance, theatre, or fine arts? It’s all possible and we can offer you the chance to create and develop your own ideas. This will help you to become an independent musician.

In the Bachelor course you will have weekly lessons with your main teacher, a weekly ensemble coaching lesson, and a rehearsal with a pianist to work on solo repertoire. Of course, this is combined with interesting courses on music theory, cultural history, entrepreneurship and much more.

In the Master’s course is the opportunity to shape your own educational plan. In addition to the important resaerch, it is also possible to broaden your insight into the instrument elsewhere, for example by specializing on natural trumpet.

Welcome to this wonderful institute.
