Engineering & Natural Sciences

Are you curious about how things work? Do you enjoy solving technical or scientific problems? Then you might be interested in the fields of Engineering or Natural Sciences. These are broad areas of study that cover many different programmes. Each field has its own focus — one more technical and practical, the other more scientific and research-based. Below, you can read more about both directions and learn what fits you best.

Engineering

Engineering is about creating smart and useful solutions to real-life problems. You learn how machines, buildings, systems or digital technologies work. And you learn how to improve or design them.

As an engineering student, you will use maths, physics and technology to design, test and build new ideas. This can be in many areas: from electrical systems and robots to energy solutions or complex machines.

At Fontys, engineering is hands-on. You learn by doing. You work on projects with other students and with real companies. This helps you prepare for jobs in the technical world.

Examples of what you might learn:

  • How to design and build a robot
  • How to solve problems using programming or electronics
  • How to improve energy systems or machines

Natural Sciences

Natural Sciences focus on the scientific laws behind nature and matter. You study how things work on a small level, like atoms, molecules, and physical forces.

You ask questions like: What happens when two substances react? How does radiation affect the body? How can we use physics to improve medical technology?

At Fontys, you will do experiments in labs and apply theory in real situations. You learn to think critically, solve scientific problems and work safely with high-tech equipment.

Examples of what you might learn:

  • How to do chemical research in a lab
  • How radiation and imaging work in healthcare
  • How physics can be used in smart technologies
