For who?

For professionals who want to make a greater impact within their organisation using data. Across virtually every field of expertise, department and area of responsibility. This course is suitable for people with and without IT knowledge. That’s why one of the benefits is that, during the course, you’ll work in a team with people from different backgrounds.

Please get in touch for a no-obligation chat to discuss your specific situation and how this course can help you.

There are no strict entry requirements. However, a higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking, along with a few years’ work experience, are recommended so that you can bring your own practical problem to the course and get to work independently.

You’re curious, analytical and inquisitive. In other words, you’re not afraid to try, to fail or to experiment. That’s where you’ll learn the most. You like to think in terms of solutions and recognise the value of collaboration. Experience with IT or programming isn’t necessary.

Content and structure

You’ll learn how to make data available, clean and structure it, and then analyse and use it to make better decisions.

You’ll work with tools and techniques of your choice, such as Power BI, Power Query, Python and SQL. You’ll also learn about the opportunities and pitfalls of working with GenAI models (such as ChatGPT and Copilot). In addition, you’ll be introduced to themes such as Business Intelligence, Generative AI, Requirements Analysis, Data Visualisation and Data Flows.

The focus is on applying knowledge to realistic real-world problems.

The course lasts 18 weeks and combines one fixed class day per week with self-study and project work. Each week, you’ll work on your own practical problem and learn the skills and theoretical concepts needed to make progress with data.

You’ll go through the process step by step: from collecting and cleaning data to analysing, visualising and creating value for your professional practice.

The study load consists of one day of classes per week and an average of 4 hours of self-study. At the end of the programme, you will deliver a working prototype (Proof of Concept) that you can use to take your organisation forward.

The course starts in September and February each year and lasts 18 weeks. You’ll attend courses on a fixed day: Monday or Thursday. This allows you to choose the day that best suits your schedule.

At the Fontys ICT InnovationLab in Eindhoven, you’ll work in an open learning environment alongside people with and without IT knowledge. Through scheduled workshops, you’ll develop fundamental knowledge and skills, whilst an online training environment is personalised in real time.

The programme covers:

  • Accessing and cleaning data
  • Data modelling and SQL
  • Data visualisation
  • Requirements analysis

Special attention is given to the use of Generative AI to enrich the development process, whilst also highlighting the limitations of GenAI.

After approximately 6 weeks, the programme transitions to on-demand workshops, as participants’ personal practical challenges become more specific.

Weekly coaching sessions are held with both a process coach and an expert coach, who provide guidance on shaping and refining personal activities. This enables the organisation of weekly, question-driven workshops and lectures.

Show & Grow sessions are held periodically, during which knowledge sharing takes place and course participants and students ask each other questions and offer mutual support.

Attendance throughout the course is essential, as collaboration, knowledge sharing and coaching form the core of the programme.

The course is centred around the personal project you bring from your own professional practice. In addition, you will be part of a large Shared Learning Team carrying out three projects for real companies. You can choose which project(s) you wish to join and/or contribute to, in order to learn as much as possible and to experience and gain insight into the practical aspects of various data-related IT projects.

Frequently asked questions

You’ll be working alongside other professionals on the course as well as students from the bachelor's degree programme in ICT. These students are nearing graduation and are used to working on projects. Some of them therefore already have IT knowledge and know how to work with data. Knowledge exchange and sharing experiences happen quickly, and hands-on help from students and coaches is readily available. This provides a rich learning environment and a broad learning experience.

As your own research question takes centre stage, you set your own pace, whilst the learning gained from the group projects is a valuable addition.

Please mention this immediately upon application so that the coordinator and coaches can start thinking along with you and helping you from the very beginning. A suitable project can always be found.

IT experience is not required to take part in the course. We do, however, expect you to have a higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking, several years’ work experience and an analytical mindset.

Are you unsure whether your profile is a good fit? Please send your CV to accelerate-IT@fontys.nl. We’d be happy to get in touch with you to discuss whether you might still be able to take part in the course.

Accelerate IT’s courses do not offer the possibility of obtaining a visa or residence permit. You can find more information on this on the IND website.

You can apply up to a few weeks before the course start date or whilst places are still available. We advise you to apply in good time due to limited capacity.
