Fontys and Achmea begin exploratory discussions on the purchase of part of the Interpolis building
Fontys and Achmea are holding exploratory discussions regarding the potential partial acquisition of office space within the Interpolis building in Tilburg. This concerns the office accommodation in the low-rise sections surrounding the Interpolis tower. As a result of hybrid working, Achmea no longer uses all available office space and is therefore exploring, together with Fontys, opportunities for its future use.
As part of its Strategic Accommodation Ambition, Fontys is exploring various options for the future relocation of its Stappegoor campus in Tilburg. Through this process, the university of applied sciences is working towards a future-proof educational environment that is easily accessible by public transport and supports education, research and collaboration.
One of the options being explored by Fontys is accommodation within part of the Interpolis building on Spoorlaan. Discussions on this possibility have taken place with Achmea in recent months. Over the coming period, both parties will investigate whether the building is suitable for higher education and what conditions would need to be met. This process will include an environmental impact assessment, consultations with stakeholders, and an exploration of the permits that may be required.
Jaapjan Zuidema, Member of the Executive Board of Fontys, said: “This marks an important step in the further development of education in Tilburg. For Fontys, it is essential that our accommodation supports the way we deliver education and collaborate with professional practice. The Interpolis building is one of the options we are currently exploring. Through this assessment, we aim to establish carefully whether this location can contribute, in the long term, to a strong and future-proof campus in Tilburg.”
No final decision has been taken at this stage. The findings of the various studies and procedures will be taken into account in the further decision-making process concerning the future relocation of the Stappegoor campus.
