Your introduction week

The new academic year starts in September ... but before your studies start, you'll first take part in the introduction week. That's Purple 2025! During the introduction week (25 - 29 August) getting to know each other is key.
Important: Starting from 2025, Fontys will no longer provide centrally arranged accommodation during the introduction week. We kindly ask you to arrange your own place to stay or travel to the programme from home each day.

Programme

Below you can see all the activities in which you will participate:

Monday 25 August 2025
Your introduction week kicks off! You’re expected at 09:30h at Fontys Academy of the Arts, Zwijsenplein 1, 5038 TZ Tilburg, where your intro parents will welcome you in the Refter. The morning will be dedicated to getting to know your course and classmates.

After lunch at Factorium, you and your group will explore the city through a fun walking route. The day ends with a big celebration at the school party in the Muziekzaal.
The programme runs until 21:00h, after which you’ll head home independently.

Tuesday 26 August 2025
We meet at 09:30h at Pieter Vreedeplein in Tilburg, make sure you're on time!
We’ll begin the morning with an active challenge at Prison Island, where you’ll work with your fellow students to score as high as possible.

After this energetic morning, you’ll take part in the Handshake, giving you the opportunity to explore other arts disciplines offered at Fontys Academy of the Arts. Through workshops, you’ll get to know the breadth of the programmes of Fontys Academy of the Arts.

We’ll round off the day with a relaxed Pizza Party in the Muzentuin, where you can mingle with your peers, lecturers, and staff.
The programme ends at 20:00h, after which you’ll travel home on your own.

Wednesday 27 August 2025
We start the day actively with sports activities at Tilburg University Sports Centre. Be at Tilburg University Station by 09:30h, where your intro-parent will be waiting to walk you to the venue.

After this sporty morning, there will be time to freshen up and get ready for the afternoon. You’ll head into town for the Tilburg Square Party, where you can relax with music, fun, and great company.
The day ends by 22:00h. After that, you'll head home independently.

Thursday 28 August 2025
This afternoon is all about music, good vibes, and the biggest student party of the week! We meet at 13:00 at Tilburg Central Station, where your intro-parent will greet you. Buses will then take you to Leijpark, the site of the lively Purple Festival.

At the festival, you’ll meet students from all Fontys programmes, dance to great music, and create unforgettable memories.
The event wraps up by 22:00h, after which you can catch a return bus to Tilburg Central Station and then make your way home.

FAQ

FAQ

What does the intro week look like for new students this year?
The new academic year starts in the first week of September. But before that, you’ll take part in the Purple Introduction Week 2025 from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 August. It’s all about making connections – with your fellow students, your course, and your new city. Together you’ll eat, explore the city, get to know each other and the programme, and create shared memories.

Do I have to attend every day?
Yes, full participation is mandatory. If circumstances prevent you from attending, you must inform your intro-parents and the organisers.

Why is there no camping this year?
Due to budget cuts, Fontys will no longer provide centrally organised overnight accommodation from 2025 onwards. Participants are expected to travel from home daily. Fontys is responsible only until the end of the official programme each day.

Who are my intro-parents and how do I recognise them?
You’ll meet your intro-parents (senior students) on Monday 25 August at Fontys Academy of the Arts. They’ll be wearing yellow, blue, orange or pink T-shirts. You can also join the community group (scan the QR code) where they’ll introduce themselves.

Is everything within walking distance?
Yes, all locations are within walking distance. For activities further away, buses will be provided.

Can I get a discount if I can’t attend the whole week?
Unfortunately not.

Do I need to bring my own food or drinks?
Lunch and dinner are provided on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursday (Purple Festival), you’ll need to bring or buy your own food. There will be plenty of food and drink stalls at the festival, including options for dietary needs.

Do I need to bring sportswear on Wednesday?
Yes, that’s definitely recommended.

Do I need a separate ticket for Purple Festival?
No, entry to the Purple Festival is included in the intro week ticket. First-year students and intro-parents don’t need to buy an extra ticket.

What am I allowed (and not allowed) to bring to the Purple Festival?
