Limebro's: limoncello with a twist

LimeBro's

As true limoncello fanatics, the two brothers Loet and Job van den Biggelaar did not have to think long about starting their business. Alongside their studies -Business Management and Food Business- these 'Limebros' are now brewing their own limoncello with a twist. The pair are also currently taking the Entrepreneurship Minor to gain more knowledge for their venture.

Both brothers like the Entrepreneurship Minor so far, according to Job. "It's a great opportunity to give your business another boost. In the beginning, we made a lot of decisions based on feelings. In the minor, you learn to look at your business much more critically, validating and backing up every step with the right knowledge from experienced entrepreneurs."

Approved by Italians
The idea for Limebro's was born during long summers and cosy evenings, explains Job van den Biggelaar. "A few years ago, limoncello suddenly became a popular drink, and we too loved it. In a short time we became fans, and were introduced to different kinds of limoncello. There is a big difference in quality, too, which you soon taste."

Soon the duo started experimenting with making their own limoncello. Job: "Actually, it's not even that difficult, many people make their own limoncello. The main ingredients are lemon peels, and pure alcohol. People often think it can also be done with vodka, but then you don't get as tasty limoncello. You soak the peels in the alcohol for a while. How long exactly? Opinions differ on that. From two weeks to six weeks or even longer."

What limoncello connoisseurs are not divided on is the origin of the lemons. They must come from the volcanic soil around the Italian city of Naples. Job: "You really taste it when you use other lemons, so for Limebro's limoncello we only use Sorrento lemons. We did add a little twist: our limoncello is -in addition to its original form- also available in mint flavour. For a craft product like this, that was quite exciting, but we have since received the approval of several Italians. I think that speaks for itself, haha."

The Fontys Minor for Entrepreneurship
After making their own limoncello at home for a while, the two brothers founded their company earlier this year. Wanting more knowledge about entrepreneurship, they both applied for the Fontys Minor in Entrepreneurship. Job studies at Fontys Business Management, while his brother studies Food Business at the Has in Den Bosch. But it was no problem for Loet to take the Minor at Fontys either.

The first steps for Limebro's have been taken, the product has been on the market since April 2022 and is already on the shelves at a number of liquor stores around Eindhoven. Now it is time to grow the business. The brothers hope the minor will help in that, tells Job. "It's great that you get feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and can see where things can be improved. In the end, your business will only get better from that."
