At Fontys, we are now accustomed to signing in using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). From 16 November 2026, students will also sign in using MFA at Fontys campuses. This marks the next step in further strengthening digital security within Fontys.

MFA is a key part of digital security at Fontys. By using MFA at Fontys campuses as well, we make it much harder for hackers to gain access to accounts and data. In this way, we work together to ensure a secure digital learning and working environment.

What will change for students?
Students were already used to logging in with MFA outside Fontys campuses. From now on, they will also log in at Fontys campuses with an extra verification step via the Microsoft Authenticator app on their mobile phones. Therefore, it is important that they always have their mobile phones with them when they wish to access the digital Fontys environment.

Digital exams
Students must also log in using MFA before taking digital exams. In collaboration with several institutes, we have tested in advance how MFA will work at Fontys campuses during digital exams. Should any issues arise with signing in during a digital exam? Support will be available. Where necessary, a number of authorised staff members within the institutes can grant a temporary exemption from MFA, so that a student can still take part in the digital exam.

What does this mean for you as a member of staff?
Nothing will change for you. Staff already use MFA at Fontys campuses. However, you may receive questions from students about the new procedure. The most important thing to know is that, from 16 November, students will also need their mobile phones at Fontys campuses. Students have been informed about this via the article ‘From 16 November, signing in at Fontys sites will be even more secure
