Alumni event inspires alumni and professionals in logistics

On Thursday 7 February approximately 30 Holland Alumni and company representatives in the border regions of Limburg (NED) and Nordrhein-Westfalen (DEU) came together for an evening of inspiration and networking during the Unfreeze your knees event at the Technologie- und Gründerzentrum Niederrhein GmbH (TZN) in Kempen, Germany.

Opening statements were made by Sophia Gruner from Fontys Venlo and Karen de Man from Nuffic's Holland Alumni network.

Their warm welcome was followed by an insightful presentation on the impact of robotics in the logistics sector by Kees Verweij from BCI Global. For many years robotisation was a point of discussion as posing a threat to the labour market. However, in recent years the more positive side of robitisation has become more and more clear, especially now with the current and expected shortages on the labour market.Robots now even prove to offer chances that increase the number of employees, for instance the number of employees at Amazon has grown between 2014 and 2017, even though the number of robots has increased from 1,400 to 45,000.

Then Fontys alumnus Erald Verbruggen of SDEX Consulting & interim shared his career story with the audience and also provided them with three tips for a sucessful career: Be passionate, Be authentic and Be flexible.

And last but not least, Howard Lettinga from NoBlahBlah shared with us the way to communicate with no blah blah using his five favorite fundamentals. The most important one being 'unfreeze your knees'.
