Fontys Venlo and the Research Chair Cross Border Business Development are looking for you! There are approximately 50,000 frontier workers in the Dutch-German border region. Many SME search for opportunities to expand their business across the Dutch-German border, but what strategies do they use?


As part of a larger research project, we seek to understand different types of cross-border business. We use the model of Möller and colleagues (2019) to identify different strategies for entering the foreign market. But what types of strategies do companies in the Dutch-German borderland actually use?


A challenging Research Assignment

Are you interested in doing cross-border research into types of business strategies? And are you thinking of doing a master program in the near future, than this challenging research project may be the ideal step for you. The project can be developed in terms of a work placement assignment or a graduation project. The research question we would like to see answered is:

“What strategies do companies in the Dutch-German borderland use for entering the cross-border market?

Participation in day-to-day business at the workplace

The research chair Cross-Border Business Development is an applied research and development institute that focuses on doing business in the Dutch-German border region. The research is always carried out in cooperation with and on behalf of the business community in the Dutch-German border region. Within this practice-oriented research, we answer questions that companies and entrepreneurs in the Dutch-German border region have. In addition, researchers from every Fontys International Business School bachelor program work within the research chair on cross-border business issues.

As an employer, Fontys gives you every opportunity to think along and work together proactively. You will be actively involved in the team and the organization. During your internship or graduation project at Fontys Venlo, you will come into contact with many nice companies and business clubs in the euregion. You will be assigned concrete tasks and with that your own responsibility, for example in the field of event management and marketing. Of course, you will be given the space you need to work on your research.


Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a proactive student with strong communication skills. As we are working in the Dutch-German border region a good working knowledge of either Dutch or German is preferred. Preferably one of these on C2 or native level. In addition, you should have good analytical skills and are quality driven.
