The overall aim of this course is to introduce participants to the key principles of the
theory of employee relations.
Objective
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
Understand and discuss the employment relationship
Understand and discuss the process of managing employee relations
Understand and discuss differences between the interests of employers and employees
Identify factors that influence individual and group behavior in organizations and their motivation for effecitve performance
Discuss issues associated with employee representation, participation, commitment and involve
ment
Understand and discuss the issues involved in handling grievances and managing discipline
Structure
The student will use a range of activities such as workshops, lectures, case studies and small group working. This to enable the student to demonstrate students ability to put theory in practice.
Assessment:
Coursework: to investigate one topice of employee relations and to give an oral presentation
