This Master of Science provides students the opportunity of both studying at one of the Netherlands' leading Logistics education centres at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo, The Netherlands, and Plymouth Business School at the University of Plymouth, U.K.
Fontys in Venlo is renowned for its expertise in the area of internal and external logistics and has established itself as a non-disputed centre of expertise offering academic courses in Logistics Management. They originate from a structural and explicit demand for well-trained and practical logistic experts with hands-on experience. Throughout the years the demand for logistic expertise has increased substantially.
The University of Plymouth enjoys an international reputation for its focus on international logistics, supply chain management and marine studies. The postgraduate programmes are managed by a specialist team of academics from across the University. Many have taken doctorates and are members of relevant professional bodies.
The course is conducted in the English language.

The study is divided into three stages;
The difference in these 2 programmes, are the modules which can be chosen during stage 2 and the topic / subject of the dissertation in stage 3.
Stage 1; 3 core modules,examined by continuous assessment (Sept. until Dec.).
30 EC (European Credits)
Stage 2; 3 modules, (1 Core, 1 Specified and 1 Option Module), assessed by coursework and by examinations (Jan. until April). 30 EC
Stage 3 is a four-month research period, which requires the submission of a thesis. (May until Aug.) 30 EC

Modes of instruction
Workshops, lectures, group work, guest lecturers, practical assignments, seminars, group discussions, case studies, laboratory work, tutorials, field study, logistic excursions (harbour of Rotterdam and more), research project.
Logistics & Socio-Cultural field trips
During the part in Venlo, logistics field trips will be organised. For example a visit towards the port of Rotterdam or the port of Antwerp.
Field trips differ every year. During the period in Plymouth field trips could also be planned.
Entry Requirements

Requirement for this course is a relevant Bachelor degree or equivalent in a business, engineering or logistics subject. Candidates with a non logistics related bachelor degree will be recommended to prepare by reading a specific book.

For non-EU/EEA citizens, a minimum English language proficiency is required according to the following table. The English language proficiency must be proved by submitting test result.

Financial details 2012-2013 The payment for the tuition fee is in two instalments.
Stage 1 The tuition fee Venlo in EURO, charged in August • € 3.500,- for EU/EEA citizens • € 4.700,- for non EU/EEA citizens
Stage 2 & 3 Tuition fee for Plymouth in GBP, charged in January • £ 6.000,- for EU/EEA citizens • £ 7.667,- for non EU/EEA citizens
The following expenses should be taken into account:
Insurance (12 months) approx.€ 500,-
Accommodation approx. € 325,- per month
Living expenses approx. € 175,- per month

After receipt by Fontys University, admission will be verified within 4 weeks maximum. After verification student will receive an admission letter / conditional admission letter / dismissal letter by post.
The lessons start at 10 September 2012. Friday 7 September the introduction will take place.
Degree
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded with a British degree "Master of Science in International Logistics” or “Master of Science in International Supply Chain Management”. The degrees are awarded by the Plymouth University.
These degrees are not compliant with the Dutch educational accreditation organisation NVAO (Nederlands-Vlaamse Accreditatieorganisatie), but with the similar British Government’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) guidelines and standards
Studiefinanciering For this study it is not possible to receive "studie financiering" for Dutch studies. Reason for this is that this study is not accreditated by NVAO, but by British Government’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

Scholarships
Fontys recommends non-EU/EEA students to contact the embassy of your country of origin to enquire about the availability of student grants.
We advise EU/EEA students to study www.leonardodavinci.nl. This scholarship only applies to a research project. * Dutch students could apply for a VSB scholarship.

Accommodation If accommodation in Venlo is required, Fontys can assist in this. Fontys has contacts with private landlords close to the University grounds. This accommodation is mostly situated in private houses, with more students living together. Approximate prices for accommodation in Venlo are approx. € €325,- a month, including gas, water and electricity charges. Sharing a kitchen or bathroom is not uncommon.
For the second stage in Plymouth, much accommodation is available. if needed Plymouth Student Accommodation Office can assist you in finding a hall of residence, private house or lodgings with a family. Approximate accommodation costs in Plymouth approx £80,- per week.
This study will be taught in both the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Fontys International Office will assist students in securing entry Visa, residence permit for the Netherlands and residence permit for the U.K.
Non-EU/EEA students already studying or living in the Netherlands should ask for a change of goal for their valid Residence permit.

Insurance Studying in The Netherlands requires insurance. In The Netherlands there is only 1 company that can provide foreign students with insurance policies giving full cover. This company is Lippmann and the insurance is called IPS (Insurance Passport for Students).Information about both insurance and rates can be found at www.acepolis.com/ips. Of course a full-cover insurance in the country of origin, is also possible.
Language Dutch, a Germanic language, is spoken everywhere in the county. Many Dutch speak at least two foreign languages with nearly everyone understanding and speaking English.
Religion The Dutch make up a colourful society, full of cultural and ethnic variety. Many religions are present due to immigrants coming from various parts of the globe. The prominent religious groups consist of Protestants and Roman Catholics, although more than one third of the Dutch do not consider themselves to belong to any specific denomination. Religions such as Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism have a growing number of followers in The Netherlands. Therefore lots of churches with different religions can be found. There is also a mosque in Venlo.
Arrival in Venlo Please inform Fontys in advance about the date and time of arrival in Venlo. We can provide a train timetable for the journey from Amsterdam (Schiphol) to Venlo. This journey will take approximately 2 hours.
About Venlo
Venlo is a small city with about 100.000 inhabitants and situated in the south-east of the Netherlands.
Venlo is some 2 kilometers from the German border, 50 kilometers from the Belgium border and it is a 5-hour bus trip to Paris. That makes it very easy to visit countries such as Germany, Belgium and France. In the summertime it is nice and warm, about 25°C in the winter temperatures of -10°C occur, but are not common.
Shops, cinema and pubs Venlo has lots of them. It is very nice and relaxed place to shop, visit a cinema or pub. On the other hand, Venlo offers the attractive aspects of a small town without actually being that. About 100,000 citizens make sure that it is an important (eu-)regional factor. Venlo has different Tokos and Supermarkets. There is also a large variety of restaurants; there are Chinese, Indonesian, Greek, Mexican, Italian and lots of other restaurants.
Summer School
Fontys Venlo offers an extensive summerschool program for both new and present students.
It is not possible gaining credits for the Master of Science, but for those who have the time and interest it could be a very nice and valuable experience doing 1 of the language courses. More information you can find here.
Fontys University of Applied Sciences is the second largest University in the Netherlands, with 35.000 students and 34 different institutes. Fontys has more than 10 locations all over The Netherlands, the majority of them in the south. The Venlo location has about 1600 students and therefore it has a very informal atmosphere. Some classes experienced that they have become friends. They spent lots of time together and organise different activities such as cooking-party and other meetings.
Fontys in Venlo is well-known for its specialisation in Logistics. In the 1980's Fontys started the first National Transport Academy, which still has a very good reputation. The last decade Fontys has become more internationally-focused, not only because of this International Master programme but also because of the growing number of German-based students.
Facilities Within the University of Fontys Venlo, there is a free use of the library. All logistic and business-related literature required, can be found. There students will receive a Fontys ID, which is necessary to use copy machines and other facilities. There is also free use of computers for all the students with internet.
