The Theatre Department of Fontys University of Fine and Performing Arts proudly presents a new Master program: Performing Public Space (PPS) which will start in September 2017. This Master program is designed on interdisciplinary terms, giving access to practicing artists from different disciplines with an intention to enter the public space by their artistic means. Artists with a background in theatre, dance, music, fine art, architecture, digital art forms and graphic design are more then welcome to join this program.

PPS offers students an intensive artistic research program, collaborative and creative dialogue with other international artists and an online learning environment to develop their own future artistic projects. The Master offers a supportive playfield to explore the complexities of public space and enrich the creation of artistic products with knowledge and insights of philosophical, social-political and entrepreneurial problems in the context of different public areas.

The program of PPS is inspired by innovative developments in higher education. Therefore, the program explores multiple artistic strategies to research art in conceptual as well as executive phases. Furthermore, the program contains problem-based learning assignments and co-creational work opportunities. PPS is a one year Master program with intensive bootcamp education weeks, including theoretical guest lectures, LAB assignments and Best Practice Case Studies together with online individual learning assignments in research and project development.

The PPS teacher team consists of Heleen de Hoon, Aart Strootman, Paul de Bruyne and Anne-Marije van den Bersselaar. They all represent different disciplinary expertise and have an extensive background in 21st century teaching styles, coaching, researching, dramaturgy and artistic practice. They will shape the curriculum modules and provide different coaching trajectories and research tools during the year.

This program is adaptable to the quality and themes of the different artistic projects that the artists want to work on. Participants in the master will be selected on the basis of the quality of their proposals. Applying is already possible by email via FHKmpps@fontys.nl. Artists can hand in a well considered project plan, a motivation letter, a Curriculum Vitae and an extensive vision on the value of art in public space. More information will be available soon at fontys.edu/performingpublicspace .
